Successful closure for our projects in Poland

A decade working for the animals: Bogdan, Anna, Nadja, Michal. Vorne Magda, Katarzyna.

It was an act of strength, a continuous commitment for the animals. When we started we could not foresee how long it would take. We started the first of our projects in Poland more than a decade ago: inspection of the horse market in Bodzentyn in the South of Warsaw in a poor region with around 20,000 animal husbandries. Almost every house had a…

Poland | Bodzentyn | Monthly Report December: Last inspection of the cattle and bird market

Bodzentyn cattle market. Our team is talking with the traders.

During our inspection in December, we only count about 100 cattle offered for sale at the market. Most of them are young animals. Even though the price for cattle is very low at the moment, there are not many interested buyers. Many animals will return to their original farms after the market closes. On both markets, the cattle and the bird market,…

Poland | Bodzentyn | Monthly Report November: Animal Markets

Our team member Bogdan looks after the injured pigeon.

During all our inspection days in November, the number of animals at the cattle market remains low. There are never more than 150 animals present at the market. We do not see any neglected or injured animals. However, we spot an injured pigeon and take it home with us to look after it. Unfortunately, our help came too late. Sadly, the bird passed…

Poland | Bodzentyn | Monthly Report October: Animal Markets

Bodzentyn cattle market: Our team on their way to inspect the cattle market.

Our team is inspecting the animal markets in Bodzentyn. On both, the cattle, and the bird market, we observe mostly well-kept animals. There are not many animals at the market. Poland | Wachock | Anna Lorenzen: Committed to animal welfare since 20 years

31 October 2021 – Anna’s last day of work.

Anna has been committed to helping since 20 years. The first time she worked with us was over ten years ago at the largest regional Polish market for "slaughter" horses in Bodzentyn. Up to 1,000 horses per week, brutally handled, brutally loaded and transported. Today this market no longer exists, also thanks to Anna's consistent market…

Poland | Bodzentyn | Monthly Report September: Animal Markets

Bodzentyn: Our team is checking the tethering of the calf.

Also in September, the situation at the animal markets in Bodzentyn remains unchanged. The number of cattle being sold at the market has been low for months. Most of the animals are calves. Due to very low prices, many animals are not sold at the market and transported back home. During our market inspection, our team does not document any animal…

Poland | Bodzentyn | Monthly Report August: Cattle and Bird Market

Bodzentyn cattle market. Our team inspects the cattle market every Saturday.

The atmosphere during our inspections at the cattle market in Bodzentyn is very unpleasant this month. We observe farmers who are trying to sell the same animals (mainly claves) since weeks. The farmers are complaining about very low prices. Therefore, they prefer to take the animals back home instead of selling them for cheap. Our team is being…

Bodzentyn. Our team inspects cattle market every Saturday.

Our team is inspecting the cattle market in Bodzentyn. Lately, mainly young cattle are being brought to the market for sale. During all our inspection days, the number of animals remains low and does not exceed 150 animals. The animals that we see are all in good condition. There are no animal welfare violations to report.

Our team encounters a…

Poland | Bodzentyn | Monthly Report June: Cattle and Bird Markets

Bodzentyn cattle market. Probably due to very high temperatures, there are fewer animals being sold at the market.

During our market inspections in June we see less cattle than usual. The average number of animals present at the market does not exceed 150. We suspect that this could be related to the high temperatures exceeding 30˚C and more. Our team encounters the same situation at the bird’s market which was recently re-opened in Bodzentyn. Also, here fewer…
