On the next day after the theory, the team follows ITD cars north of Łódź and we start our practical training near a big pig slaughterhouse. Three trucks are directed to inspection area, one after another. We suspect overloading, but after careful measurements, calculation and analysis of documents the number of animals is found to be correct. However, transport documentation under art. 4 of the Regulation (EC) 1/2005 is incomplete in all three cases. In case of two trucks, the partitions are not installed on lower decks. The drivers are instructed accordingly, and the Instructors find relevant articles to fine for infringements. Next part of practical training is focused on poultry transport. One truck is inspected, where the team witnesses terrible transport conditions again. The containers are very badly maintained, posing a risk of injury; the chicken are loaded carelessly (we see at least three trapped by the container door); and first and foremost the curtains are not installed at all. The driver pulls the curtains down, as instructed by an inspector. We clearly see by the condition of the curtain, that it is rarely used. As is the case of most short-distance transports in Poland, the transport documentation is incomplete as well. The driver is fined and administrative procedures against the transport organiser will be initiated by the Road Police.
