Investigation in the US: Horse auction in New Holland
Together with our partner Animals' Angels USA, we visit the weekly horse sale in New Holland, Pennsylvania. Again, we are here to check the conditions of the animals during the sale and to monitor the kill buyers’ activities.
It is a slow sale day, over half the barn is empty. We note that there are a lot of emaciated horses, and several have fresh cuts on their legs. One has a deformed left front leg, most likely the remnants of an old injury. A paint horse appears to be quite sick with an advanced eye infection. Overall, the horse looks feverish and tired. Another mare also has an eye infection. The horse with the deformed front leg and the sick paint horse are sold to kill buyers.
Together with Animals’ Angels USA, we will continue to monitor the animal welfare conditions at this auction and will forward violations to the competent authorities.
