Swiss broadcaster SRF reports on our investigation into cattle feedlots in South America
Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) has covered our report on cattle feedlots in Mercosur countries. Among other things, our undercover investigation was featured on the consumer affairs programs “Kassensturz” and “Espresso.” The investigation was also highlighted in an online article.
In our report, we document serious animal welfare violations at feedlots in Uruguay and Argentina. The footage shows, among other things, cattle without adequate protection from the elements, dirty and sometimes empty water troughs, and animals standing knee-deep in fecal sludge after rain.
In the SRF report, a veterinary expert classified the conditions as clear animal welfare problems and also pointed out the health risks associated with intensive concentrate-based fattening. The investigation also makes it clear that meat from such operations ends up on Swiss store shelves via imports.
The reporting has even had concrete consequences: The Swiss importer A+C Delikatessen suspended deliveries from the affected Il Tramonto feedlot until further notice. Lidl also suspended orders for the product in question.
