Report on the suffering of blood mares and the current political debate in Switzerland
The online portal “Infosperber” provides a detailed report on the hormone PMSG in a new article. The piece describes how large quantities of blood are drawn from pregnant mares over a period of weeks in order to extract the hormone PMSG, which is used in industrial pig farming.
The article is based on our documented research into conditions at blood farms and the far-reaching consequences of this practice—both for the affected horses and for pig farming.
The article also addresses political developments surrounding the use of PMSG, including the voluntary decision not to use the product by many Swiss pig farms and ongoing discussions about a legal ban. It also addresses the shift of production to South America as a result of international pressure on Iceland.
The fact that the media is picking up on our research and making it accessible to a broad public shows how important it is to consistently expose abuses and bring them into the public debate.
