E-Mail-Action: Iceland, stopp the suffering of mares for blood

Call on the Icelandic minister and chief veterinarian to get out of the mare blood business!

In Iceland, pregnant mares suffer for the industrial extraction of their blood. This blood is used to produce the hormone PMSG, which is used in factory farming to manipulate reproductive cycles, especially in pigs. This business comes at the expense of mares, their foals, and countless victims of mass meat production.

The pharmaceutical company Ísteka is responsible for the blood collection. The company claims that the mares are well cared for. However, our research on the blood farms paints a different picture: rough restraint, beatings, and painful poking around in the neck veins are part of everyday life.

Ísteka's permit for blood collection expired in October. Now the company must submit a new application. The Icelandic government will decide whether to continue allowing this cruel practice or to finally put an end to it.

Together with the campaing organization Ekō, we have therefore launched an email campaign. Please take a minute to write an email to the Icelandic government! It's easy: just click on the link to access the email campaign.
