In the evening, we meet with Alberto Jerez (name changed), an employee of the Spanish timber company Los Eucaliptus SA that leases land to Fernando Perdigón. Alberto is responsible of the eucalyptus plantations at the estancia “Don Alcides”. He explains that the mares were brought there mid-July of this year. It attracted his attention that they looked weak and some were very thin. He says that he has dealt with animals his whole life and it hurt him seeing them in such a bad condition. There were about 150 horses in total and 30 to 40 thereof were in poor condition. He reported this to his superiors, who did not even know that horses were grazing on their land. Perdigón had lied saying he would use the land for cattle. They disapprove of this cruel treatment of horses and want nothing to do with it. On 30 September, Los Eucaliptus SA finished the rental contract with Perdigón. Alberto tells us that the horses now have to be removed until the end of November. About 50 mares have already been picked up, in a single lorry and trailer, and there are about 100 horses left in the forest.

Alberto ist für die Eukalyptusplantage beim Landgut „Don Alcides” zuständig. Er berichtet uns, dass die Stuten Mitte Juli dieses Jahres zum Landgut gebracht wurden. Es fiel ihm auf, dass sie schwach aussahen und einige sehr dünn waren. Er sagt, dass er sein ganzes Leben lang mit Tieren gearbeitet habe und ihn der kümmerliche Zustand dieser Pferde bedrückte. Er meldete dies seinen Vorgesetzten, die keine Ahnung hatten, dass auf ihrem Land Pferde grasten. Perdigón habe falsche Angaben gemacht, er hatte erklärt, dass er Rinder auf das Land verbringen würde. Albertos Vorgesetzte sind mit dieser schlechten Behandlung von Pferden nicht einverstanden und möchten nichts damit zu tun haben. Am 30. September habe Los Eucaliptus SA den Pachtvertrag mit Perdigón gekündigt. Alberto erzählt, dass die Pferde bis Ende November abtransportiert werden müssen.
