At 9:00 in the morning, we return to the blood farm to see if the group of 200 mares has arrived during the night, which is not the case, so we decide to look for them around the area. Driving from the blood farm to the stud farm, we observe a group of four horses on land which belongs to the blood farmer, according to the neighbour we talked to yesterday. All four are thin, one is heavily pregnant and another is severely emaciated with prominent spine and pelvis.
We find a pasture with mares and foals 2.5 km after passing the stud farm. They are no race horses but look like Criollos. The horses appear in good condition and do not wear ear tags like the blood mares we saw yesterday. It is therefore very likely that these are stud mares, as the blood farmer also breeds Criollos.
We continue driving and after a few hundred meters, we arrive at a vast pasture on which a large herd of horses is grazing in the distance. They are so far away that it is impossible for us to count them. A few horses however are closer to the road and using binoculars we note that they wear ear tags and are thin. It is very possible that this is the herd of 200 mares that we observed on the road yesterday. We also detect a horse scull and a number of bones scattered on the same field.
Wir entdecken eine Weide mit Stuten und Fohlen, die 2.5 km vom Zuchtbetrieb entfernt liegt. Es sind keine Rennpferde, sie sehen eher wie Criollos aus. Die Pferde scheinen in gutem Zustand zu sein und sie tragen keine Ohrmarken wie die Blutstuten, die wir gestern gesehen haben. Vermutlich sind dies Zuchtstuten, denn der Blutfarmer züchtet ja auch Criollo-Pferde.
Wir fahren weiter und nach einigen 100 Metern erreichen wir eine grosse Weide, auf der in der Ferne eine unbestimmte Zahl von Pferden grast. Sie sind so weit entfernt, dass es für uns unmöglich ist, sie zu zählen. Einige wenige Pferde befinden sich jedoch in der Nähe des Feldweges. Wir beobachten sie mit einem Feldstecher und stellen fest, dass sie Ohrmarken tragen und ausserdem dünn sind. Höchstwahrscheinlich handelt es sich hier um die Gruppe von 200 Stuten, die wir am Tag zuvor auf der Landstrasse gesehen haben. Wir entdecken ausserdem einen Pferdeschädel und zahlreiche über die Weide verstreute Knochen.
