Our team arrives at the customs office. A group of 30 customs officers is waiting for us. The first day of training is dedicated to a theoretical part of the Regulation on the protection of animals during transport and the Official control regulation. The attendants are posing many questions and are actively involved in the discussion. The theoretical part concludes with a short quiz to evaluate if the training objective was reached.

The second day of the training is dedicated to practical on the road inspection of the animals’ transports. We start early morning in front of the Poultry slaughterhouse. A group of 20 custom officers joined. It is very cold and raining. We inspect 2 poultry trucks. On we find some dead broilers, which sadly is quite usual for the broiler transport. We move in front of the pig slaughterhouse, where we inspect one truck of pigs going to a slaughterhouse. The Custom officers give a fine for overloading to the transporter.
16.11.203 | Poland | Kukuryki–Koroszczyn
Today we are training the Custom officers at the Border Control Post of Kukuryki–Koroszczyn. The first part of the day is dedicated to inspection of the documents and in the afternoon, we meet with the official veterinarian at the border control to inspect the animal transport trucks. A cooperation between the veterinarians and Custom service is established as this is essential for a good inspection of animal welfare during transport, since each of the authorities have different competences. After the training is concluded the Superintendent Mr. Siliwoniuk presents us with a small gift and a thank you letter expressing great appreciation for our training and hoping for a future collaboration.
