Open Letter from Prof. Dr. habil. Dr. agr. Wilfried Brade

For years, we have been fighting against the so-called "breeding cattle" exports to non-EU countries. It has been publicly known for many years that the majority of these transports are not conducted in compliance with Regulation EC/1/2005, and the cruel slaughtering methods are also well-documented. Furthermore, it is no secret that there is no herd establishment in the importing countries. The business model is: import, milk to exhaustion, slaughter, and import again. In Turkey, the dairy cow population has been declining for years, even though hundreds of thousands of pregnant heifers have been exported to this country since 2010. The situation is similar in other non-EU countries.
