Public action against animal transport in Athens
At the Syntagma metro station in central Athens, the Greek NGO “A Promise to Animals” organized a public event on live animal transport. A film was shown there throughout the day—including our video material—making the suffering of animals visible to thousands of travelers.
Representatives of the Greek Ministry of Agriculture and MEP Tilly Metz, Chair of the Transport Committee in the European Parliament, discussed animal transport in Greece, the EU, and third countries. Our project manager Iris Baumgärtner was also invited to participate in the discussion. Colleagues from our partner organizations “Animals' Angels” and “Eyes on Animals” were also present.
The discussion focused on the inadequate implementation of the current rules and the need for an ambitious revision of the EU Animal Transport Regulation. Together with the other organizations, we call on the Greek government to commit to a clear improvement of the Animal Transport Regulation.
