[Translate to English:] Investigation in Argentinia: Horse Slaughterhouses Lamar and Land L
From January to September 2023, our field teams regularly monitored the EU-certified slaughterhouses Lamar and Land L in Argentina, which export horse meat to Switzerland. Many horses at these facilities are in a deplorable state: severely emaciated, badly injured, or sick. Animals in distress are left to die on their own. At Land L, we observe injured horses still untreated in the pens even after a week. Both slaughterhouses also have dead horses. At Lamar, we document the systematic mistreatment of horses, with brutal beatings to their heads and bodies to force them into a drive alley. If the flagpole breaks, they use brooms instead. The concrete floor is slippery, leading to frequent severe falls.
We call on the EU Commission to impose a ban on the import of horse meat from inhumane production.
