[Translate to English:] Investigation in Argentinia: Bloodfarm Syntex
In early February, we spent a week observing the Argentine blood farm Syntex, where blood is taken from pregnant mares for the PMSG preparation Fixplan, which is exported to Europe and Germany.
On the pastures of Syntex, we found sheer misery. Nearly every other mare was lame or had open wounds. For years, we have criticized the blood collection boxes and restraint methods for posing significant injury risks. When mares resist, rear up, or fall, the risk of injury to their legs, necks, or heads is high. The result is evident among the mares on the pastures. The injuries remain visibly untreated. Flies land on the open wounds, increasing the risk of infection and potentially leading to maggot infestations. Some horses lie weakened on the ground, and dying mares are left to suffer without veterinary assistance.
Together with our South American partner organizations, we are calling for the closure of blood farms in Argentina and Uruguay.
